New Hub Feed Updates 🚀

I’m rolling out a new feed layout and a way to view any member’s posts in a single feed by clicking the new “Recent posts” button on their profile. I’m also making sure the feed respects hub permissions, so restricted-hub posts won’t show to members without access. Plus, I’m now showing a member’s level on every post with a small number next to their avatar to help boost engagement.

Hey everyone, and welcome back to Swarm Bytes. So in this update, I wanna share with you a big change we've made to start here Hub, and the introduction of a new feed layout, plus the ability to view a member's posts in one feed. So I'm gonna start by showing you how you can view a member's posts. So if you're in, um, any of your hubs, and you click on a member. You will now see there's a new recent posts button under their profile. If I click that, that then opens up a feed with all of that member's posts. Now this will take into account which of your members have access to particular hubs, and it will be smart enough to know not to show those members any posts made in restricted hubs. Second update is you can now see the member level on every single post. So if you're looking at a member, you'll see there's a little number next to their, their avatar, which shows what level they're on. Um, so this is now visible to all your members, and we hope that that'll help drive even more engagement, uh, and status in your community. Now the big update that I'm sure you've all been waiting to hear about is the feed. Now, as you know, with the Star here hub, it was always visible to all members, even existing members, but we felt that it was in the way when it was always there and it was taking up valuable real estate. So we've now introduced the ability for that new start here hub to transform into a feed once it's been seen. So I'm gonna show you how you can set up the start here and how you can set up the feed. I'll tell you, take you through what appears on the feed. And I'll show you how you can feature a post on the feed and what the settings that can be changed are. I'll also show you how to disable the feed in space settings. So this is the hive, um, you'll see that I've got the feed turned on. You'll see there's a start here a button on the top. Now as I said, if a new member enters the space, they will straight away see this post that pops up and it's a welcome video. Now I can come in here and I can customise what this says. So I can customise the starter name, I can customise the button. Um, so what I've done here is I've made the button introduce yourself because after they've watched the video, I want them to go introduce themselves in a hub called Say hello. So when they click the introduce yourself button, it will take them to the say hello hub. You can also just close, have it close the start here pop up or take them to any URL. So maybe you've got a form that you want them to fill in on your website. But um for now, let me show you how that looks. So if I make it directly into a hub and I make the button introduce yourself, when they click that, that'll then redirect straight to the say hello hub. So new members will be invited to say hello, and the next step is to come to the hub and post their hello message or video. Now this feed will pull in all of the posts that I'm allowed to see. So if I'm in a private group, it'll show me those posts. If I'm on a paid membership, it gives me access to certain hubs, I'll only see those hubs. And if I want to as an admin, I can now make any post featured on the feed. This then is now pinned to the top of the feed, and I can do it for multiple posts, so I can pin this one to feature on feed, and that will then feature. I can also do it from any of the hubs, so if I see a post on another hub, I can click feature on feed and that post will then be the top of the feed. I can also just un-feature it if I want to, and that post gets removed. Now the other thing is, you can also decide how this sorting happens on the feed. So right now I've got it set to trending. Trending means it'll show me the most recent posts with engagement. So let's say the last 3 days, which posts are gaining momentum over that short period. I can also make it new activity or newest or popular or likes. I recommend using trending or new activity as your feed algorithm. You can also turn on or off the ability to post from a feed. So you'll see if I'm in a feed and I click the plus, I can then choose where this post should go as a user. So I can say I wanted to go say hello, text, voice or record, and then I can post my post and it'll go into that particular hub and into the feed, obviously. But you may wanna just turn off this posting button altogether. You can go in there and just turn off allow posting from feed. You can also control what information shows above each of the posts. So right now I've got it showing the hub name. But if I wanted to, I can have it show hub and section. Click apply changes and you'll see now it's showing both the hub and the section above the post. I can also, just like you can do in a regular feed, I can apply a cover image, and that'll then appear. At the top of the feed. I'm gonna just remove that now cause this is live and keep it as it is. And that's essentially how you can manage and control what the feed looks like, how it works, um, and we think this is a great way for new members or existing members to see their engagements at a glance. Just scroll down, browse, and engage. We think it'll bring more engagement over the long term in your communities. Now, if you wanna turn off Um, this feature altogether, the feed feed settings, you can go into your space settings. Now, I don't have access to that space, but I'll go into a different one that I've got a found a growth challenge space. I can go to settings and administration, space settings, navigation, and I can then choose to disable the feed altogether. Now if I do that, when people arrive in your space, they'll be taken to the next hub with the most recent content. So there'll be no feed, there'll be no starch here. Those are both turned off and they'll be taken just straight into the first hub with new content. Or you can leave the feed on and turn off turn off starch here if you like. That means they'll see the feed but no starch here pop up. So you have complete control as to how you want this to work, um, and we think it's it's pretty cool that you can turn this off and on. And that you can now have your own start here if you wanted to as a hub and have that be the first place they land on, when they land in your space. So this is just version one of the feed, and we're pretty excited about where this can go. We've already had requests to be able to show parts of the leaderboard, show things like trending posts on the right, um, put other sort of widgets inside the feed that can help give, give your members a glance as to what's going on and how best they can engage. We would love to hear your feedback, so please leave a reply or a comment below this video. And I'll see you at the next one. Cheers.
